Attractions and State Parks
New Jersey is well known for its beautiful seaside beaches such as Cape May: a Victorian seaside gem and the country's oldest seaside resort; the Jersey Shore, where hundreds of thousands of visitors and families enjoy the sand, surf, fun and excitement; and the Sandy Hook where everyone can surf, sail, fish, scuba dive or sun. New Jersey's unmatched beautiful beaches boasts of beautiful islands and bays lined with majestic lighthouses, fishing villages and scenic views.
For the visitors and tourists, New Jersey is proud of its numerous historical discoveries and attractions. Historical sites such as: the Thomas Edison National Historical Park which preserves Thomas Alva Edison's laboratory, his Glenmont estate and some of his collections; The Indian King Tavern, site of the 1777 meeting of New Jersey General Assembly that officially ratified the Declaration of Independence; the USS New Jersey (BB-62), an Iowa-class battleship earning more battle stars for combat actions than the other three completed Iowa-class battleships.
New Jersey also offers an array of beautiful parks and recreational facilities. The Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, a lush national park that contains waterfalls, 200 historic sites, top-notch rock climbing, and over 100 miles of hiking trails including the 27-mile long Appalachian Trail. The Allaire State Park, best known for its 19th-century iron making town, antique steam trains on the Pine Creek Railroad and Allaire Village. A picturesque view of the rich farmlands and forests, soft hills and the lush valleys can be viewed atop the High Point Monument, at 1,803 feet above sea level.
Try to visit the safari and amusement park Six Flags Great Adventure, in Jackson Township and your whole family will be entertained! Visit the water-themed Land of Make Believe and Pirate's Cove, for a fun and wholesome experience for the whole family. New Jersey has plenty to offer. New Jersey is best known for its local produce like the Jersey tomatoes, sweet corn, blueberries and cranberries. Historical Sites
New Jersey, nicknamed
"The Garden State", is home to 9,800 farms covering 790,000 acres of farmlands, making it one of the leaders in agricultural production.
New Jersey has played a prominent role in the nation's rich history. It is also known as the
"Pathway of the Revolution" where over a 100 battles were fought on New Jersey soil. New Jersey was the center for war production especially in naval construction: battleships, cruisers and destroyers were all produced in this state. It also served as the principal location for defense during the Cold War: fourteen Nike Missile stations were constructed to defend New York City and Philadelphia.
New Jersey is the most densely populated state in the U.S.A. It has a strong scientific community and is home to major pharmaceutical firms like: Johnson and Johnson, Novartis, Pfizer, Merck, Wyeth (Pfizer), Hoffman-LaRoche, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Schering-Plough (Merck & Co.), Sanofi-Aventis. New Jersey is also home to major telecommunication firms like: Verizon Wireless, AT&T Communications, Alcatel-Lucent, and Avaya.
Because of its strategic location, shipping is a strong industry in New Jersey. The Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal is the world's first container port and one of the largest in the world.
